In 1918 Graveyard Point was the site of the Baltimore City "piggery".
Pigs were housed here to dispose of the garbage that was transported by
the barge from the Inner Harbor. In the 1940's a marina began
to take shape and in 1948 the property was purchased by the Humm and
Kastner families. The existing office building was then a
bar and restaurant which burned down in1951. In 1954 the Kastners
sold their interest to Arthur & Irma Humm; who remains the sole
owners. In 1954, we were awarded a boat franchise and became
dealers for Owens Yacht, which in 1969 reorganized as Concorde
Yachts. Over the years there have been many changes..... The bar and restaurant were closed down in 1965. In the late 1960's Robin came on board full time and after a stint in the Army, Jay joined the business in 1971. In 1974, due to poor economic conditions, Concorde ceased production and we discontinued boat sales. It was at that point we took control of the service department which had been leased to an outside concern and regrettably had to release the Ventnor Yacht Club from their lease due to space constraints. The original service building was demolished and rebuilt. Piers and bulkheads have been built over the years with improvements and additions continually evolving the marina layout. In 2003 Hurricane Isabel flooded both the store and the shop. Within six weeks, the marina was back in business and not one boat was damaged due to the hard work of all the employees. |
